August 2017 Reading Wrap Up

Image
August was a really good reading month for me! I didn't read as many books as I do most other months, but I read a few longer books as well and I enjoyed everything I picked up. There were also several five star books in this month! So without much rambling, let's get to the books :) The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 This beautiful book (inside and out) was the first book I read this month, and also the best. It didn't take me at all long to read this, as it was so engrossing and lovely. The stories and the characters are written so well that I was completely drawn into the novel. I was blown away by its beautiful writing and by how much this rather short book conveyed. It touched upon so many important themes, such as love and gender and charity, but it did so in a very subtle and thought provoking way. If you want to know more about my thoughts on this, please check out the review I posted on this blog. I really can't recommend this wonderful book e...

July 2017 Reading Wrap-Up

Image
As July has somehow flown by already, I wanted to share the books I read in July. I had a pretty good reading month and loved several of the eight books I read :)  1. Gardens of the Moon  by Steven Erikson  ⭐⭐⭐ This was the first book I read in July. As I've written a full review for this book, I'm not going to say too much about it here. I went into this book with very mixed expectations, it has a reputation of being difficult to follow and so detailed that it can be hard to get into. My experience with this book was kind of like that, but I still quite liked it. The audiobook for this is really good, so I mostly listened to that. The narrator has a really soothing voice which is very nice to listen to, and he did an amazing job of giving each character a unique tone and accent. I'm sure there was much I missed, though, because I'm easily distracted when listening to audiobooks. But all in all I quite enjoyed the story, it combines so many cool elements of the...

June 2017 Wrap Up

Image
I didn't read that many books this month, but there were a few I enjoyed quite a bit and some I didn't like at all, so there's a good mixture of opinions in here. I'm hoping to read a bit more this month, as the semester is coming to an end, but here's what I did finish in June:    Twelfth Night - Shakespeare 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟  This month I discovered that Spotify has all of Shakespeare's work, many of them are full cast dramatised versions and so I chose Twelfth Night . It was really good to listen to, the actors did a great job. I read the text version along because this was the first time I listened to a play, and the audio conveyed the humour and wit much better than only reading the texts. I'm hoping to listen and read to all of his plays in the future, it's just so much better than only reading it. Now to the play itself. I don't think this is my favourite comedy of his, that spot goes to Midsummer Night's Dream so f...
